The Voice Within

Nicholas Ilechie / / 2 min read

Words are powerful.
They shape thoughts.
They mold perception.

Say a lie long enough,
and even you might believe it.

If you look close enough,
you’ll see,
your life today,
your lens of the world,
is stitched together
by the thoughts you’ve consumed
and the words you never questioned.

Good or bad, it doesn’t matter.
The truth is:
most thoughts weren’t yours to begin with.
They were planted.
By voices you admired,
shows you binged,
books you read,
quotes that felt deep,
or reels that slipped into your soul
between two scrolls.

The mind itself is naturally drawn toward negativity.
It lures you into a past that no longer exists,
then punishes you with regrets and shame.

Try to escape it, and it hurls you into an anxious future,
a world of what-ifs, fears, and imaginary disasters.

It does this, not because it hates you,
but because it’s trying to protect you.
Yet in trying to protect,
it keeps you trapped.

And all of it?
Fueled by words.
Some truth.
Some dressed-up lies.
But if the voice behind them was charming enough,
you swallowed them whole.

And now?
You live by them.
React by them.
Judge yourself by them.

Words don’t just speak
they shape.
They sneak past logic,
and settle in your beliefs.

So the next time a thought feels familiar,
ask yourself…
Are these thoughts mine?
Or did I just forget where I picked them up?

Choose your words.
Guard your gates.
Don’t just consume — question.
Because words don’t die.
They echo.
They become your inner voice.

And one sentence,
from the wrong mouth,
can rewrite your whole life.

Stay awake.
